Enterprise day

On Thursday 10th November, all the pupils from Selby Abbey Primary School participated in our school Enterprise Day. In the weeks leading up to Enterprise Day, each class used their creative skills to create something to sell.  The afternoon was a huge success celebrating all the hard work the children had put in. In total, a huge £497.80 was raised! We would like to thank all parents and carers for their support and congratulate the children on all their hard work.
Take a peek below at the fantastic items the children created!

60s Theme

Throughout the past few weeks of year five, we have been focusing on all about the 1960's. We are thrilled to hear that we are having our very own 60's day. We will be singing songs from the Monkeys to the Beatles. Then we will be tasting 1960's treats to eat which we will be looking forward to (I hope that they are tasty!) Please come and see us performing our songs at 3pm on Thursday in the hall.
Today is our 60s day and here are our outfits!

Multiplication in Year 4

This week in Year 4, we have being practising our times tables and mental techniques for multiplication.

We then began looking at using a written method for multiplication. Miss Palfreeman and Mrs Sullivan even let us draw on the....tables!

We are now beginning to feel confident with this method :)

Mental maths in Year 4

In maths we used three dice to make a multiplication sum and use our mental skills to work it out.

We understand it is essential that we know our times tables to help us in maths .

Science in Year 4

In year 4 science we have been learning about animals and their habitats.

We also sorted the animals in two groups vertebrates and invertebrates.

Wise Wizards - Stone Age Cave Paintings (Ms Broxup's Class)

Last week we started our new topic - The Stone Age. We learnt interesting facts about cave paintings so one afternoon we created our own using our fingers and natural paint colours. We were inspired by the pictures drew on the walls in the caves around the world by the cave men and women. Some of us put a hand on the paper and painted around it, other drew animals. These are some of our fantastic art work. We hope that you like them.

Year 3 Stone Age Launch (Mrs Cannon's Class)

On Monday, we became cave men and women for the morning! To start our new topic we learnt about cave paintings from long ago, and couldn't wait to try it ourselves. First, we went outside to collect sticks, leaves and berries to paint with. After that, we returned to the classroom and created our own 'caves' under the classroom tables. We had to paint Stone Age scenes using what we had gathered and although it was quite tricky, we really enjoyed it! Here are some pictures from our day...
