In year 5 we have been looking at endangered animals. We have been looking at all sorts of animals. We have been writing Haiku poems which have only 3 lines need 5 syllables on the first line, 7 syllables on the second and 5 syllables on the final line. The way you can count the syllables is clapping and putting your hand under your chin and seeing how many times it moves. Here are some of our Haiku poems. I HOPE YOU LIKE THEM!!! J

Ms Broxup's class - Science
In Science year 3 children have done a bean plant experiment to examine the stages of a plant's growth.
Ms Broxup's class - Magna Trip
Year
3 went on an awesome school trip to the Marvellous Magna Science and Adventure
Centre on the 3rd May. They had a fantastic time exploring the
different pavilions including Water, Air, Fire and Earth, where the children
enjoyed lots of fun games. Even though the water room was the children’s
favourite, they loved watching the brilliant, big melt performance with fire
sparks and smoke, and the spectacular ‘fire-fantastic’ tornado. They even had
time to go on the adventure park before coming home. All children behaved
brilliantly and represented Selby Abbey Primary School really well.
Ms Broxup's class - Computing
In year 3 we have been creating short cartoons using the programme Scratch. On Wednesday, year 5 came to watch our cartoons who were eager to have a go themselves. They all had a great time!

Year 4 Trip out to the Jorvik Centre and the Dig in York.
In History, Year 4 are learning about the Vikings, so we were really excited to be able to go to York last Friday and visit the Jorvik Viking Centre and The Dig. We learned all about the exciting work of archaeologists and how they piece together the past using lots of artefacts they find under the ground. We even had a go at digging some things up ourselves and unearthed relics from Roman, Viking, medieval and Victorian times! We also got to examine and sort lots of artefacts including bones, shells, pottery and even poo!
We then enjoyed a journey back in time to a Viking village! We learned about the how they lived: their jobs, their leisure time, their diet, their weapons and their customs. We even talked to some real Vikings! It was a great day!
